REPORT: GENERAL SECRETARY

Dear fellow members. In a week we are going to meet again. The annual meeting of all members of FIAT/IFTA. Full members, Associated members and Supporting members and those of you who are attending the conference as observers: Welcome to FIAT/IFTA, welcome to Turkey and welcome to Antalya. The lastest version of the programme - number 16 - has been finished.

Take a look at the Web Site. This is the last Newsletter published by the present Board. On the agenda for the conference you will find the General Assembly. The activities of the association will be reported to those who attend the General Assembly.

This time we are going to have an election of a new President and of new members to the Board. Only Full members are allowed to vote. At present I have only received two proposals for the election of President: The first one was Dr. Branko Bubenik, HRT. He has already forwarded his own presentation to members. I have talked to the candidate and he has accepted a formal presentation made by FIAT/IFTA. The second candidate is Mr. Emmanuel Hoog, INA.

All Full members have been forwarded information about the General Assembly 2002. I will repeat the message I forwarded to all Full members: "- Written proposals for candidates for the election of President and Council Members must be given to General Secretary on midday the day before the General Assembly at the latest, i.e Tuesday 15th October - (we had to make a change in the programme) - "

The election of the General Secretary and the Treasurer and the Vice Presidents is a matter of concern for the new elected Executive Council.

I know that it is not easy to remember FIAT's guidelines and Statutes in connection with election.

My own position as General Secretary and as a member of the Executive Council is: I am on election for member of the EC. If the new elected EC wants me to continue for two more years as General Secretary, I am willing to do so. But it is the new EC who makes the decision in matters mentioned. It is not the President who appoints the Vice Presidents, the Treasurer and the General Secretary. There may be some who have misunderstood the rules?

I have decided to publish my report to the General Assembly in this Newsletter. I think it is important for all members to be informed about the work I have done. According to my agreement with NRK , I could work 60% for the association - in reality I have worked more than that.

Thank you for your attention, dear fellow members
