UNESCO financial support for Latin American and Caribbean delegates to the FIAT/IFTA World Conference in Santiago.

The FIAT/IFTA Latin American Regional Group (LARG), chaired by Vice President Tedd Johansen, has for some time discussed with UNESCO to get some financial support for delegates from less well-to-do audiovisual archives in Latin America and the Caribbean. We have now been granted US$ 4.500 from UNESCO to support the conference in Santiago de Chile, October 3-5, hosted by Television Nacional de Chile (TVN). Members of FIAT/IFTA in Latin America and the Caribbean may forward an application to LARG and FIAT/IFTA's Secretary General Lasse Nilsson for support of travelling expenses only. The application must be forwarded to this address:

A selection of the applications due to the limited amount of money granted, has to be done by the LARG chair and the Secretary General.

FIAT/IFTA is very grateful for the substantial UNESCO support. It will make it possible for those less well-to-do audiovisual archives who otherwise will have no possiblities to attend a conference. We want to direct a special thanks to UNESCO's representative Ms. Joie Springer, who has worked hard to make this support of the Latin American and Caribbean delegates possible. I have known Joie Springer for many years now and I know she has a special understanding and knowledge of the importance of the international network of audiovisual archivists dedicated to preservation of the audiovisual heritage. We are happy to add UNESCO to the list of supporters of the FIAT/IFTA World Conference in Santiago de Chile.
