ABU GUIDELINES FOR TELEVISION ARCHIVING

Philip Rogers of New Zealand reported recently (see FIAT Newsletter Feb 95) on ABU having plans to launch guidelines in the form of a booklet with the main purpose
"to help small to medium-size television stations address the issues of what material to keep that they have created and broadcast and to ensure this material is accessible to future generations.

Whilst the technical information focuses mainly on videotape formats, the basic principles of selection and information documentation apply to film as well."

These guidelines by Philip Rogers, New Zealand, and Ross Sellars, Australia, are now obtainable thus:
Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, P.O. Box 1164, Pejabat Pos Jalan, Pantai Baru, 59700 KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, at a cost of 20 dlrs /copy.

In an appeal from last Autumn Andrew Geider, Corporate Archivist of Selluloid Screen Services Inc, calls for help from different archives concerning footage for a television series on "The Way We Are", a book by Margaret Visser, about the ordinary things in daily life that we take for granted. Thirteen episodes have been sold to the TV channel Life Network and another thirteen will be commissioned.

They are i.a. looking for historical film footage to one of the episodes on the history of air travel and air hostesses and would appreciate assistance in this field.
